Pencak Silat Sharaf - System Information

Pencak Silat Sharaf, is a modern system of combatives developed by Ustaz Hussein Udom, an internationally respected combatives trainer and published author. The system is based on three primary sources of traditional Muslim Fighting Arts and Warrior culture.

1. Ottoman Military Arts
2. Silat War Arts of the Malay Archipelago
3. Research, Development, and Combative Experience

The curriculum of Silat Sharaf is separated into inner (batin) and outer (zahir) elements, each with their own course of study. The outer elements develop proficiency in armed and unarmed combat in the close quarter and extreme close quarter fighting ranges. Practical concealed carry weapons like knives and guns are primary tools while more classical weapons like sword, garrote, and stick are also covered. Emptyhands and groundfighting are also very important aspects of the outer curriculum.

The inner elements develop into three areas, classical chivalry, internal body culture development, and military history/culture. The Chivalry or Furusiya (futuwa), is a classical code of conduct and propriety that can be traced back to the beginnings of the Muslim community in Arabia over 1400 years ago. The Warrior Body Culture elements strive to develop command of human energy by understanding how the body develops force, harnesses it, and releases it. Silat Sharaf has gained a reputation worldwide as one of the most functional, simple and fluid systems of Silat available for study.
